Office 2.0 Databases and XML Feeds
Sunday, April 9th 2006 | Ismael Ghalimi
Over the last couple of days, I have been working on porting the intalio.com website to a WordPress server and a Dabble DB database. It’s working out pretty well, but I recently hit a roadblock: when trying to display structured content served by Dabble DB on WordPress pages using FeedDigest, I realized that the RSS feed offered by Dabble DB does not provide fully structured information. Instead, most of the data I need is stored into a single ‘Description’ field, which makes it impossible for FeedDigest to parse — you can check this feature list for an example. Granted, a little bit of PHP code in WordPress could do the trick, but it would not really help me prove the point that Office 2.0 technologies could be used to build a dynamic website, would it? Therefore I sent a request to the good Dabble DB folks and filed a new entry into the Office 2.0 bug tracker. Hopefully, Avi and Andrew will implement this feature before adding templates, which I don’t really care for anymore than they do.

We are looking at letting people ‘script’ things more deeply from FeedDigest, which could help in situations like this but, yes, more structured input means more structured output :) Good luck!
