First Office 2.0 Conference

Tuesday, May 9th 2006 | Ismael Ghalimi

When I started my little experiment with Office 2.0 on December 4 of last year, I did not really expect it to work out so well. Reality is, Office 2.0 is turning into a working alternative much faster than I thought it would, and many other people are coming to the same conclusion. For this reason, I have decided to organize a little conference on the subject, sometime in October 2006.

The conference will take place over two days and will be held somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. It will bring together Office 2.0 companies, Office 2.0 pioneer adopters, investors, industry analysts, and journalists. It will be an attempt at collectively building a case for Office 2.0, and addressing some of the challenges that are preventing its mainstream adoption today. Most importantly, it will be an opportunity for like-minded people to meet and have fun together.

The idea for the conference is still at an early stage and is presented in more details on this Zoho Writer document. It will evolve over the coming days based on the feedback I will receive from you, but a couple of things have been set already: sponsorship packages will be offered to Office 2.0 companies, expenses will be paid for speakers, and the participant fee will not exceed $250.

If you’re interested to be a sponsor, a speaker, a participant, or all of the above, please feel free to drop me an email. And if I’m not the one responding, don’t be surprised, for my main job is with Intalio and I have no intent for it to change anytime soon (things are starting to get really exciting there). As a result, I have asked my lovely wife (her name is May) to give me some help, and she will be the one taking care of all the logistics for the event.

I very much look forward to meeting you then.

Office 2.0 the Conference…

Just going through my trusty RSS Reader this morning and I came across an exciting little piece from Ismael Ghalimi over on IT|Redux which in my humble opinion is the premire and one stop shop for all info regarding “Web 2.0 Applications”…

I’ll be there — just let me know where and when.

A quick update per a note I received from Ismael: “It will take place in San Francisco, most likely the first week of October.”

[…] Over time, more and more people started playing with the same tools, writing about it in a similar fashion, and our chap suggested the idea of getting together. As a group, they could share their ideas and tricks, and maybe get more folks to share the fun with. As Jack Johnson said, “it’s always more fun to share with everyone”. So one day, our chap got serious about it, and set a date and a place for the gathering. He had no idea how many of his friends would show up, nor where they would meet, but it did not really matter. All they wanted was to have fun together. […]
