Connecting Offline and Online Worlds

Last month, I wrote about the beauty of convergence, focusing on scanR and the ultra-cool TomTom NAVIGATOR 5. Today, another example of convergence at play crossed my radar screen, thanks to TechCrunch: Mytago.
The idea is pretty simple: use Mytago to generate a visual tag in relation to a given URL, print the tag, and let people scan it by using their camera phone and log on to mytago.com in order to retrieve the corresponding URL. To me, anything that can help bridge the gap between offline and online worlds is a good thing, and Mytago provides a way to link physical objects to web pages.
Currently, the set of suggested applications is pretty limited and focuses on posters announcing some events or trying to sell something. With a slightly more streamlined user interface (using a webcam instead of a camera phone maybe), I could see some people using such a service for personal inventory applications, helping them keep track of books, CDs or DVDs for example.
