Zoho is Complete
Thursday, June 22nd 2006 | Ismael Ghalimi
A couple of weeks ago, I described what an Office 2.0 alternative to the beloved Microsoft PowerPoint could look like. Today, the good folks at AdventNet released Zoho Show, which comes really close to what I had in mind, and makes Zoho the first complete Office 2.0 productivity suite.
To be fair, Zoho Show is very much a work in progress. This good comparison of Zoho Show versus Thumbstacks provided by ReviewSaurus gives a good overview of the work that remains to be done. That being said, it is usable today, and I outlined some areas for improvement on this presentation.
Because the Zoho suite does not offer single sign-on yet, and because Google has yet to release an online presentation tool, we have not reached Milestone 2 for Office 2.0 just quite yet, but we’re getting really close and we should start thinking about Milestone 3. Congratulations to the Zoho team!

How about integration between Office 2.0 components as Milestone 3? I also have a Milestone 4 in mind, but I will keep it for a longer blog post.
Zoli,
I’m curious to hear more about it…
Ismael,
Single Sign-On is coming soon for Zoho.
-Raju
Raju,
Glad to hear that. Looking forward to it.
One nit on Zoho Writer: I can’t find a word count capability, which puts me back to defaulting to Writely. This may sound a bit odd but word counts are important for all kinds of documents. Do correct me on this Ismael, as I’m keen to use a suite.
To Zoli’s point, integration is a MUST for me. I am concerned that while all this online services goodness is fine and dandy, where will the inevitable integration come from.
Some services deliver APIs, others are awful, and others are closed.
Dennis,
I think you’re right, but I’ll let the Zoho folks comment.
Dennis:
We do have word count in Zoho Writer. Whenever a document is saved, this information is shown. Try CTRL+S on your document (or just save it using the Save button). We show the word count at the bottom-right with a small bubble popping out with this information.
I completely agree on integration. We are working on that. Currently, you can take a graph in Zoho Sheet and put it in Zoho Writer. Whenever the graph changes in sheet (due to value changes, etc.), it does change in Writer. More such integrations are coming soon.
-Raju
Raju,
Thank you for the clarification. I’d really like to get graphs in Zoho Show btw.
Ismael:
Yes, it makes perfect sense. I’ll let you know once we do it.
-Raju
Raju,
Thanks!
