Office 2.0 Under the Radar
Wednesday, July 19th 2006 | Ismael Ghalimi
In anticipation to the Office 2.0 Conference that will take place in San Francisco in October, IT|Redux is sponsoring an Under the Radar event on Office 2.0 hosted by SAP Labs in Palo Alto, CA on August 15.
This isn’t your “Office Space” office anymore. Instead of working on those old TPS reports alone, a new generation of knowledge workers has Office 2.0, a virtual office that includes collaboration tools, wikis, blogs, chats, mashups, widgets and social networks. The need for client applications to be productive is diminishing now that you can read/write/edit/share on the Web, and in most cases, for free.
Plus, Office 2.0 is not just for “office” workers, other groups who can benefit as well include teachers and students for projects and assignments, non-profits who can’t afford the price of client applications, or neighborhood communities who want to collaborate on a cause or action. Office 2.0 is not only changing the way we work, it is changing the way we work “together”.
In this evening Under the Radar event, we’ll showcase four companies playing in and enhancing this emerging market. They’ll demo their product to a panel of industry experts who are active in this space, along with an audience of early adopter technology insiders. Both audience and experts will get a chance to beta test and offer feedback based on favorite features, areas for improvement, the ideal industry “partner” match-ups, and how best to reach out and build up their audience.
I look forward to meeting you there. Registration is open now.

Ismael,
When can we expect details on the Office 2.0 conference? I’d love to fly out for it and see old and new friends.
-Jason
Jason,
Hopefully next week. I’m getting some help for logistics.
Ismael:
Do you have any info/guess as to when Writely is going to open up again? They were saying early July but I have not seen anything yet.
-Ryan
Ryan,
Sorry, I have no idea. But knowing a little bit about Writely’s underlying infrastructure, I am not surprised that Google would find it difficult to make it scale. Have you tried Zoho Writer? I have used both, and AdventNet’s solution looks a lot more mature to me at this point.
Ismael,
I am trying it as we speak, and it looks pretty good.
Thanks,
-Ryan
That’s one heck of a left field coup Ismael — top bragging rights to you.
Dennis,
Thanks! I did very little, really.
[…] I’ve said on many occasions that I’ve been completely weaned off Microsoft technology, including Office. It’s an uphill struggle at times with clients who are, quite naturally wedded to Outlook, Word and so on. Then out of left field, Ismael Ghalimi announces: In anticipation to the Office 2.0 Conference that will take place in San Francisco in October, IT|Redux is sponsoring an Under the Radar event on Office 2.0 hosted by SAP Labs in Palo Alto, CA on August 15. […]
Ismael,
I know it takes a lot of energy to put together events like this. I am amazed you could do this while also running Intalio… More power to you!
-Sridhar
Ismael,
May have to be in Bay area Oct 9-10 and would be great to also make the conference if just before or after. Love your database of tools…

Sridhar,
Thank you for the feedback. I’ve got some good help though, and my wife is very understanding. It would not be possible otherwise. We look forward to having you participate.
Best regards
Vinnie,
This is great. We should be able to accomodate your schedule.
EchoSign Presents at SAP on IBD’s Office 2.0…
EchoSign is very pleased to have been chosen to speak as an Office 2.0 pioneer at IBD’s Office 2.0 Under the Radar at SAP Labs: This isn’t your “Office Space†office anymore. Instead of working on those old TPS reports…
[…] As an aside, Ismael Ghalimi kindly invited me to present on Winweb at his upcoming Under The Radar event. While it is an honour to be asked (and Ismael was making it really easy for the company), Stefan felt, and I agree, that Winweb isn’t quite ready to make a splash over the pond. […]
