PlayStation 3 for Office 2.0 in the Living Room
Wednesday, August 8th 2007 | Ismael Ghalimi
So you’ve decided to attend the Office 2.0 Conference, but you already own an iPhone, and you would not have much use for another one. Well, you’re not the only one in this position, and we have been working hard to find a suitable alternative gift that could be used with Office 2.0 applications. If you already own an iPhone, it’s likely that you do not need any other mobile device, therefore we looked for a static one, and our choice went to the Sony PlayStation 3.
Sony’s PS3 now runs Linux, which means that you can get Firefox on it, turning this great gaming device into an awesome Office 2.0 setup for the living room. If you own an HD 1080p television, you get 1920 x 1080 native resolution to get some serious work done, without having to leave the comfort of your couch.
Thanks to an introduction made by our good friends from Jive Software, we got some help from Sony Computer Entertainment America and will offer a PlayStation 3 60GB to any participant who already owns an iPhone. Upgrades to the 80GB model will be offered for $115 ($100 + taxes + PayPal fees), and devices will be shipped directly to participants before the event. Unfortunately, we have no solution for parents who already have an iPhone and have banned gaming devices from their homes. Sorry Jeff.
The PlayStation 3 will also be used to drive the flat panel displays that will be used for signage. As a way to thank Sony for their help, we also decided to go for Sony televisions, and selected the sleek 46" BRAVIA W series to be mounted on the massive Ergotron LX Large Display Cart. That should make for a nice setup.
