Frank,

It's a very natural evolution of the partnership. Providing this API binding will make it easier to develop the really interesting mashups that will in turn make the combination truly useful. In fact, this is something that should have been released as part of the first announcement...

More on this as soon as I find time to play with it.

Best regards

Ismael,

What do you think of the latest Google/Salesforce.com announcement (June 08)? It seems to me that they're raising the bar higher than anything else available. Are you planning on ruminating on this topic again? I'd like to hear your thoughts

The Salesforce.com and Google combination is a great step forward towards the cloud computing vision. Most enterprises are still working on basic SOA deployments and require lots of hand holding to bring Enterprise 2.0 towards any type of enterprise-wide deployment. There is an interesting diagnostic/assessment tool now available for business and IT folks to learn more about Enterprise 2.0, it is at getsocial.bea.com. I would love your feedback.

Ismael,

Thanks for your assessment of Appirio's applications and your very helpful feedback. I think we all agree that this is only a first step in bringing together Salesforce.com and Google -- we certainly aspire to offer our customers a single view on all their documents, regardless of where they are stored, or in what format, and to have full business context available in any calendar.

You nailed one of the most important elements of this announcement -- the power of bringing together the platforms of Salesforce.com and Google for an ecosystem of partners. Here's our take on the topic...

It's amazing how backwards the current calendaring systems are, even though the calendar tool has been rehashed in many different languages under varying platforms. Good salespeople are usually pretty busy and require good tools to get the job done. The ultimate tool should be easy for invitees (guests) to understand and integrate with their own calendaring solution, and still unleash full power to the meeting inviter. Outlook seems to have solved this problem, but it's only solved if everyone uses outlook.

Currently, everyone has their own calendaring solution (Yahoo, Google, Outlook, iCal, Salesforce, Evolution, BlackBerry, iPhone, etc.), so integration is key here. I checked out the Presdo link, and although it doesn't have perfect integration (it looks like there are links that allow import into different calendars), it does seem to offer a substantial user experience improvement over something like Google Calendar. Busy people don't want to waste time figuring out how to create/manage events. Google Calendar doesn't offer a clean and easy view to invitees, unless you happen to be a Google Calendar user. Looks like the same lock-in problem that Microsoft solved with Outlook.
