BPM 2.0 Redux

Saturday, June 14th 2008 | Ismael Ghalimi

In about 40 minutes, I will give a presentation on BPM 2.0 at a conference taking place on the Australian Gold Coast (Winter is nice down there). While I was going through my emails and blogs before the event, Google Reader recommended that I take a look at a post titled Do We Really Need BPM 2.0 and authored by Jim Sinur, a former Gartner analyst who recently went to work for Global 360.

While I’m glad to see the moniker Bruce Silver and I created two years ago being adopted on the marketplace, I must admit that I was quite surprised to see that Jim was making it his own, without giving due credit. While I would usually treat such blatant plagiarism as pure flattery, I just cannot ignore it today.

Eight years ago, I introduced the concept of BPMS, and made significant contributions to the concept of BPM with my friend Howard Smith, only to see them corrupted by industry analysts who love nothing more than confusing customers in order to sell them advisory services. Not all of them fall into that trap though, Janelle Hill (Gartner) and Bruce Silver (Independent) being perfect examples of industry analysts honestly trying to educate the market in a very positive way.

Nevertheless, I learned my lesson, and I am not one to make the same mistake twice. So be prepared for a bit of an argument Jimmy boy, for you woke me up on the wrong foot, and I’m quite mad about it…

He has to do something to get attention now he’s left the Gartner fold.

Or is it that he can blog more freely now?

No idea. All I know is that he wrote a third post on it, with no credits yet…
