Ishmael

this is absolutely fun, no questions...

The IntelliRADAR platfrom we have been working on over the last 6 years essentially does exactly that - it meshes Data (we prefer to call it information) in the form of "Business Objects" with Process and derives Performance (KPIs) which can be both Process KPIs ( SLAs etc) and Business KPIs that are indirectly an outcome of the process and in many cases may not even be linked to a process but only with the Business Objects.

We have features to :

1. define and extend Business Object definitions (meta data) and associate one or more BOs with each other
2. features to model transformation, validation and authorization logic
3. features to trigger processes when the BO reaches certain user defined business statuses
4. Features to have the Process (and activities) intimately inetract with the BO in a to and fro manner
5. features to support automatic creation and updation of underlying table definitions (we use standard RDMS as persistence mechanism)
6. features to automatically configure role based UIs for the Business Objects.

can provide you more details / demo if you are interested to examine further...

look forward to hearing from you on how you progress on this front. cheers! ram

John,

You and Bruce are absolutely right.

But it's not just about "referencing," it's also about "creating" new data objects.

As <a href="http://thoughtfulprogrammer.blogspot.com/2008/09/data-models-that-mom-can-use.html" rel="nofollow">Bruce Silver</a> says:

"Let's face it, without referencing data you can’t do a whole lot in BPM."
