The comprehensiveness of your 'Business Operating System' concept is a welcome development for all those who require a systemic approach toward holistic or even simple operational transformation/change. You've piqued my interest.

Martin,

We definitely support versioning, and it's available today.

Best regards

Ismael,

Thanks for bringing this concept to the light. We were focussing to bring process patterns to life with a kind of "operating system" but failed to complete the circle to a complete business support system.

Since businesses tend to develop, a built-in version control system would help, too.

Ram,

I think the vision if very similar.

We should definitely add the concept of organization management.

Best regards

John,

I totally agree with you. We do that for our workflow framework by the way...

Excellent post Ihmael! Truly insightful! We have been working on a similar vision for our IntelliRADAR platform at Herald Logic, although we were struggling to categorize / position it. We transitioned at various stages from BAM to Decisioning / EDM to BPM 2.0 to Business Solutions platform... over the last 6 years...

However, we have a slightly different view of the core constructs for the "Business Operating System", although I really like the term very much, closest to what we have been working on as well...

In our view the Business Operating System must provide for :

1. Rich updateable Business Object meta data and update services
2. Business Process, Actions, and Decision services
3. Business Performance Aggregation services (KPIs)
4. Rich UI services
5. Business / Organization Hierarchy(ies) services
6. Role, User, and Privilege management services (including partners)

In short a BOS, to be complete, should provide for Information, Process, Decision AND Performance Management in one integrated Business operating model.

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Cheers

-Ram

PS: Jan Baan has been a personal inspiration for me, and I have been associated with Baan / Cordys in the past...

Great vision Ismael...

I'd like to suggest that Open Interfaces are perhaps more important than Open Source...

For example, users do need a "Task List" where they can see their Task Assignments. Providing a user interface for this Task List in the BOP is mandatory - but you must also provide a Service Interface to the "Task List" or you've locked in your users to your vision of what the UI should be. If you provide the proper Service Interface to the Task List, then incorporating the BOP's Tasks in alternate UIs (like SharePoint) will be a snap.

Good hunting!
