Servers such as emea.salesforce.com run out of one of those centres. Which brings up a question: one of Salesforce.com's largest customers is Misys, a japanese online bank with more than 55,000 end-customers on their customer portal, and their data is not hosted in Japan. About location, I would add the fact that customers prefer to have their data hosted in a country where they can trust that it will not be opened up and browsed by a local judge, following local laws far different from the customer's home laws. This is one reason why we need a Salesforce.com data centre in (continental) Europe, because we have already seen airline companies and others hand over our data to US judges, and we don't want that to happen again with our business data. Yours, -Rup Ismael,

As far as I know (reference), Salesforce.com only has 3 data centres: one in the USA (and a backup/sync’ed site) and one in Singapore. Servers such as emea.salesforce.com run out of one of those centres.

Which brings up a question: one of Salesforce.com’s largest customers is Misys, a japanese online bank with more than 55,000 end-customers on their customer portal, and their data is not hosted in Japan.

About location, I would add the fact that customers prefer to have their data hosted in a country where they can trust that it will not be opened up and browsed by a local judge, following local laws far different from the customer’s home laws.
