Zoho is on a Roll
Thursday, April 6th 2006 | Ismael Ghalimi
The folks at AdventNet are truly amazing. There is not a week that passes by without them releasing a new Office 2.0 application, or a major upgrade to an existing one. This week, we get blessed with both.
First, the excellent Zoho Sheet is now available as a public beta. I have been playing with iRows, Num Sum, and wikiCalc for quite some time now, but Zoho Sheet appears to be far superior. The quality of import/export capabilities with Microsoft Excel is mystifying, and the addition of chart generation makes it a truly usable spreadsheet now. I also received my preview access for Zoho Sheet’s integration with Zoho Creator, for which I need to find some time to play with. At this point, there are three things I’d like to see added to Zoho Sheet: first, the ability to explicitely define the height of rows and the width of columns, as opposed to just resizing them with the mouse; second, the ability to publish standalone charts as GIF, JPEG, PNG and SVG images; third, the ability to populate a spreadsheet directly from an RSS feed. Combining the last two features could potentially make Zoho Sheet a killer tool for business intelligence, and might be the one thing that will drive users to adopt it en masse.
Second, AdventNet just released Zoho Polls, a cute little application for creating simple online polls and surveys. It does not have the sophistication of full-blown online survey tools such as SurveyMonkey.com, but it’s also significantly cheaper, especially because it’s totally free. As far as I can tell, it’s not yet integrated with Zoho Sheet, but I would expect such a feature to come down the road.
Keep up the good work guys!
